Men’s Track & Field: Scots Finish Second at Tostrud Classic as Heitler Breaks School Record in the 200m Dash

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team took second at the St. Olaf Tostrud Classic. The Scots finished with 122.50 points, finishing only behind the host, St. Olaf (144).
 
Sophomore Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) won the 200m dash with a personal indoor best time of 22.35. Heitler's time broke the school record of 22.70, set by Konnor Fleming in 2013. His time also currently ranks 42nd in Division III. Fellow sophomore Jeff Wang (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) won the 400m dash. His time of 51.67 is a personal indoor best. Wang and Heitler also won the 4x400m relay, with teammates first year Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) and senior Ryan Kinnucan (Portland, Ore./Grant), in a time of 3:27.56, which ranks fourth in Macalester history. The Scots also won the 60m hurdles. First year Hamza Mahamud (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) won the event with a time of 9.00 which ranks second in Macalester history.
 
The Scots continued their winning ways in the field. First year Kevin Wang (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community) won the triple jump (12.03m (39' 5.75")). Senior Mason Bosley (Amery, Wis./Amery) took third in the triple jump. Sophomore Max Menache (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 13.93m (45' 8.5"). Menache also took fifth in the shot put, with a personal best mark of 12.36m (40' 6.75").
 
Other highlights include Schonebaum, first year Jay Lebakken (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina), first year Thomas Malecha (Faribault, Minn.), and sophomore Brock Adams (Corona, Calif./Santiago) finished third, fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively in the 800m run. Sophomores Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) and Nick Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) finished second and third respectively in the mile. Crotteau's time of 4:21.48 is a personal best and ranks fifth in Macalester history.
 
Macalester's next meet will be the MIAC Indoor Championships, held Thursday Feb 23 – Saturday Feb 25. The Scots host the meet in the Leonard Center.
