ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College junior outside hitter
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) was named to the All-MIAC team, as the conference announced its year-end awards for volleyball today. Additionally, junior outside hitter
Annika White (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Prep Academy) was included on the MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
King had an outstanding season for the Scots, leading the team in kills with 327 to rank fifth in the MIAC. She also is second on the team and 14th in the conference with 3.35 digs per set. In 25 matches, King registered 10 or more kills 14 times and posted a double-double in kills and digs 11 times. In a 3-2 win over Buena Vista on Sept. 4, she recorded a career-high 21 kills to go with 20 digs. King also had 20 kills and 12 digs in a MIAC victory over Concordia on Oct. 9. Defensively, she notched 23 digs to go with 18 kills in a five-set win at Saint Mary's, the Scots' first MIAC victory on the road since 2016.
White accepted a different role this season and entered matches mostly to serve, tallying 21 aces on the season while playing in 24 of 25 matches. She had three aces apiece in two wins over Bethany Lutheran and in a victory at UW-Superior.
Macalester finished the season with a record of 13-12, which is the program's first winning season since the 2006 squad finished 12-11. The Scots' 4-7 mark in MIAC play is the team's best since the 2013 team also went 4-7. King is the first All-MIAC honoree for Macalester's volleyball team since 2017.
