ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College sophomore outside hitter
Adonia Anene (North Hollywood, Calif/The Buckley School) was named to the All-MIAC team, as the conference announced its year-end awards today. This is the first year on the All-MIAC team for Anene, who led Macalester in kills this past season.
After not playing her first year due to injury, Anene paced the Scots with 261 kills and 3.00 kills per set, which ranks fifth in the MIAC this season. She also ranked third on the team with 2.77 digs per set and registered 11 double-doubles in kills and digs. Anene was especially effective over the final eight matches, averaging 3.70 kills over that stretch. In a four-set loss at Bethel on Oct. 25, she recorded a career-high 22 kills to go with 15 digs. Anene also tallied 14 kills and 10 digs in a four-set victory over Carleton on Oct. 31, and 21 kills and 20 digs in a 3-2 win at Concordia in the season finale on Nov. 8.
Peyton Howie of Bethel was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Year, St. Olaf's Morgan Ryan was chosen the Defensive Player of the Year, and Bethel's Sophia Rubio was selected the Rookie of the Year. St. Olaf head coach Alicia Wood is this year's MIAC Coach of the Year.
