St. Paul, Minn. - The Macalester College women's soccer team received five MIAC honors, as the conference announced its end of year awards for women's soccer today. Sophomore
Livi Novello (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) earned All-MIAC honors, while seniors
Dana Gustafson (Ames, Iowa/Ames),
Hannah Conner (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and junior
Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention. Rounding out the awards, junior
Celia Lesmeister (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) was included on the MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Novello played a large part in the Scots' back line. Novello started in all 18 games for Macalester and registered 1,591 minutes. In multiple games, Novello came up with some big clearances out of the box to relieve pressure on the Scots.
Conner proved to also be a dominate factor in the defensive line, starting in all 18 games for the Scots. Conner came up with big stops and started many counter attacks for the Scots. She also registered three assists this fall, each on the winning goal in three separate games.
Starting in 17 of 18 games, Hamilton was a brute force in the center of midfield for the Scots. She helped to lead the attack for Macalester, including tallying the Scots' first goal of 2021 campaign, in a 2-2 draw with Carleton.
Gustafson played a vital role in net for the Scots this season. She ended the season with a save percentage of 89% across the entire season, ranking second among MIAC goalkeepers. She registered 12 saves this season against Augsburg and nine in the 2-0 win over Carleton.
Lesmeister started in 15 of 18 games for the Scots. She created many chances for the Scots, including herself. She registered a goal against Grinnell in the 2-0 over the Pioneers.
The Scots finished their season with a record of 10-6-2 (4-6-1 MIAC) which is their best record since 2015.
