ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team takes on Augsburg University in a MIAC Playoffs quarterfinal match tonight at Augsburg's
Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
The winner of tonight's match will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 6 at either No. 1 St. Catherine or No. 2 Carleton. The lowest remaining seed will face St. Catherine, with Carleton hosting the other semifinalist.
The Scots, who are 9-6-2 overall on the season, earned the No. 5 seed with a 5-4-2 record in conference play. Outside of top-seed St. Catherine University, Macalester is the hottest team entering the playoffs with a 6-0-1 record in its last seven games, outscoring opponents 17-7 during that stretch. This past Saturday, junior forwards
Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston) and
Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) each had a goal and an assist to lead the Scots past Bethel, 4-0, clinching fifth place and the program's third MIAC Playoffs appearance in the past four years. Nhouyvanisvong leads Macalester with four goals and seven assists for 15 points.
Augsburg (9-7-1) is the No. 4 seed after posting a 6-4-1 mark in the MIAC. Jayla Ponce has 16 goals and five assists for 37 points to rank first in the MIAC in both goals and points. Earlier this season, Ponce scored the game's only goal in the 28th minute to give the Auggies a 1-0 win at Macalester on Oct. 6, handing the Scots their most recent defeat. Augsburg is 7-0-1 in the past eight meeting with Macalester, including a 3-1 win over the Scots in a MIAC quarterfinal game in 2023.
Tickets for all MIAC Playoff games are $12 for adults and $3 for students with an ID. Children five and under are admitted free. Ticketing will be handled exclusively online via
