Women’s Soccer: Scots Begin MIAC Playoffs at Saint Benedict Today

| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team faces the College of Saint Benedict in a MIAC Playoffs quarterfinal match today at CSB Stadium in St. Joseph. The game starts at 2:00 p.m.

The winner of today's match will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 5 at either No. 1 Carleton or No. 2 St. Catherine. The lowest remaining seed will face Carleton, with St. Catherine hosting the other semifinalist.

The Scots, who are 8-9 overall on the season, earned the No. 5 seed with a 6-5 record in conference play. This past Friday, junior Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) and sophomores Lilly Staples (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) and Lindsay Edmonson (North Kingstown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) scored goals to lift Macalester over Augsburg, 3-0. The win clinched fifth place for the Scots, who are making the program's fourth MIAC Playoffs appearance in the past five years. Sophomore forward Mikayla Edmunds (Falls Church, Va./Georgetown Visitation) leads Macalester with six goals and three assists for 15 points, two points ahead of Hamilton, who has five goals and three assists. This is the Scots' 14th appearance in the MIAC Playoffs, which began in 2003.

Saint Benedict is 12-1-3 overall and earned the No. 4 seed with a 7-1-3 mark in conference play. The Bennies are led by forward Eva Gower, who has 12 goals and four assists for 28 points to rank second in the MIAC in both goals and points. Goalkeeper Rhianna Anya is first in the conference in both goals-against average (0.35) and save percentage (.921). Anya made four saves in a 2-0 shutout against Macalester on Oct. 3 in St. Joseph. Prior to that game, the Scots were 2-0-1 against the Bennies in the previous three meetings. Since 2000, the Scots hold a narrow 11-10-8 edge in the series.

Tickets for all MIAC Playoff games are $13 for adults and $4 for students with an ID. Children five and under are admitted free. Ticketing will be handled exclusively online via Hometown Ticketing; cash will not be accepted.
