Women's Soccer: Scots Clinch MIAC Playoff Berth with Win on Senior Day

ST PAUL, Minn. — In the final in-season home match of the season, the Macalester women's soccer team bested Saint Mary's University in a 3-0 rout. The Scots advance to a 7-9 overall record and are 5-5 in the MIAC, clinching at least a sixth-place finish in the MIAC standings to qualify for the MIAC Playoffs.

The Scots' first goal came from sophomore forward Mikayla Edmunds (Falls Church, Va./Georgetown Visitation) in the 24th minute, assisted by sophomore midfielder Evelyn Savoie (Northbridge, Mass./Marianopolis Preparatory School). It's Edmunds' sixth goal for the season and tenth in her career as a Scot.

The scoreboard would go quiet until late in the match, when senior forward Gabriela Carrillo-Quinones (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) found the back of the net in the 74th minute. She was assisted by junior forward Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter). Eight minutes later, Carrillo-Quinones would then assist senior forward Avery Ellis (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) in the game's third and final goal.

The Scots kept the Cardinals on the defensive for the whole match, attempting a total 28 shots. Hamilton attempted five shots, and senior forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) and Ellis each attempted four.

On the defensive end, senior goalkeeper Ramatoulaye Bah (Paris, France/United World College Maastricht) had two saves and senior goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) had one. They didn't have many more opportunities for saves as Saint Mary's only attempted five shots throughout the entire match, one third of Macalester's first period attempts.

The Scots' next game, and final in-conference match, will be on Friday, October 30th at 4:30 p.m. Augsburg University will host the Scots in Minneapolis.
