ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a thrilling 4-0 win over Bethel University in a MIAC game Saturday afternoon at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The victory, combined with other results on the final day of competition, clinches fifth place and a berth in the MIAC Playoffs for the Scots, who win their fifth in a row to improve to 9-6-2 overall and 5-4-2 in conference play. The Royals end their season at 3-13-2, 3-7-1 MIAC.

Exactly 17 minutes into the game, first year forward Mikayla Edmunds (Falls Church, Va./Georgetown Visitation) slipped a pass through to sophomore forward Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter), who scored from 15 yards out for a 1-0 lead. Just before halftime, first year forward Lindsay Edmonson (North Kingstown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) was taken down in the penalty area. Edmonson converted the ensuing penalty kick to send the Scots into the break up 2-0.

In the 52nd minute, junior forward Julia Hanson (Weston, Mass./Weston) raced down the right side, dribbled towards the middle and found junior forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka), whose shot from 10 yards out on the left went into the right side of the goal for a 3-0 lead. Hanson closed out the scoring less than two minutes later, getting on the end of a pass from Edmunds and firing a shot into the net from the top of the penalty area. The shutout win is the second against Bethel this season, following a 5-0 win in a non-conference game on Sept. 11.
