On TapThe Scots (9-1 overall) will play in the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time when they meet defending national champion and top-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater (10-0 overall), Saturday, in Whitewater. Kickoff at Perkins Stadium is set for 12 noon.
The SeriesFor the third week in a row, Macalester will be facing a team for the first time in the school's 121 seasons of football. This will be the Scots' first meeting with a team from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since 1978.

Last WeekMacalester laid claim to its first conference title since 1947 by downing Illinois College, 30-27, in the Midwest Conference championship game, Saturday, in Jacksonville, Ill.

Samson Bialostock was named the MWC Offensive Performer of the Week after throwing for 311 yards and three touchdowns in the game. After the Scots fell behind, 14-0, he directed three consecutive scoring drives, concluding two with touchdown passes of 31 and four yards to Victory Bordo, as Macalester took a 20-14 lead.

In the fourth quarter, trailing 27-20, he hooked up with
Tre Nowaczynski on a 70-scoring pass to tie the game with seven minutes, 59 seconds to play in the game and followed that by engineering a 13-play, 53-yard drive that chewed up 5:36 and set up
Michael Abramson for a game-winning, 21-yard field goal with 52 seconds remaining in the game.

Zandy Stowell turned in his usual workman-like rushing performance, gaining 167 yards on 28 carries.

Ben Hillmann set career highs with 12 catches and 155 receiving yards while Nowaczysnki had a career-best 110 yards receiving on just three catches.

Ryan Fleming led the defense, which forced four turnovers, with nine tackles while his brother, Konnor, had eight tackles and an interception.

Go "Mid"West Young MenHorace Greeley may have said "Go west, young man," but Macalester has chosen to go to the Midwest, the Midwest Conference, for football.

After 12 seasons as an independent, following their departure from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in football, the Scots are back in a football conference, competing in the MWC's North Division along with Beloit, Carroll, Lawrence, Ripon and St. Norbert. The South Division features Cornell, Grinnell, Illinois College, Knox, Lake Forest and Monmouth.

Macalester was picked fourth in North Division by the MWC Coaches' in the league's preseason poll while Illinois College was picked to win the South Division.

He's the BossThe 28th head coach in the 128-year history of Macalester football,Â
Tony Jennison, is in his seventh season as the Scots' mentor. His seven seasons have seen his teams put together a 35-33 record, including a 29-19 mark over the last five seasons.
A 1997 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, he was a part of four conference championship teams and two NCAA Division III championship teams as a collegian.

Jennison began his collegiate coaching career in 1998 at UW-Eau Claire as the defensive backs coach. In 2002, he took the defensive coordinator position at Marietta College before coming to coming to Macalester in 2005 in the same coaching position. He became the Scots' head coach in 2008.

The Awards ShowMacalester student-athletes have been recognized with weekly award nine times this season, including three following the win over Carroll.

This week, Bialostok and Abramson, for the second time in three weeks, were named the Offensive and Special Teams Performers of the Week, respectively by the Midwest Conference. Both won those awards two weeks, following a 34-17 win over Carroll, and Abramson earned his first POW award when he kicked a game-winning 37-yard field goal in a season-opening, 17-14 win over Carleton.

D3football.com cited the Scots' offensive line for their outstanding performance in the win over Carroll by naming them to the site's Team of the Week.
In week four,Â
Bradley Cox was named the MWC Special Team Performer of the Week while Bialostok was an honorable mention pick for national offensive player of the week by USA Football.

Besides Abramson's honor in week one,
Ryan Fleming was named to the
D3football.com team of the week after a 15-tackle effort.
The All-Midwest Conference team was announced this week as well. Leading the Macalester contingent was Bialostok, who was named first-team All-MWC North Division as well as the conference's Offensive Skills Most Valuable Player.
Jennison earned the North Division coach of the year honor as well while first-team honors in the North Division were bestowed upon Stowell and
Djoser Ramsey (offense);
Reid Callahan,
Konnor Fleming and
Zach Hauser (defense); and
Forest Redlin (special teams). Second-team honors went to
John Stephens (offense); and
Ryan Fleming and
Jacob Lueck (defense).

Setting RecordsEarlier this season, Stowell topped the 1,000-yard mark in rushing for the first time and has now broken a school record, set in 1939 and tied in 1969, for single-season rushing yards and is now at 1,243 yards, averaging 124.3 yards per game and 5.1 yards per carry.

The Scots' offense also broke the school's single-season record for total yards on its last possession versus Illinois College, breaking the record of 4,045 (2012) with 4,050. They've also set a school record for rushing yardage at 2,276, surpassing the record of 1,894 (2012).

Macalester has also set a single-season record for wins (9) and for the longest winning streak in a season (8). The Scots won the first 14 games in the program's history (1887-95) and also won eight consecutive games between the 1947 and 1948 seasons.

All That Talent, and Brains TooZandy Stowell as been named to the Capital One Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

One of two running back backs named to the District 6, NCAA Division III team, Stowell has established a new school record single-season rushing yards and ranked second in the Midwest Conference during the regular season. He enters the NCAA playoffs ranked 19th among Division III players.

In his first full season as the Scots' starting running back, Stowell has topped the 100-yard rushing mark in seven of 10 games with a career-best 208 yards in a 28-21 win at Beloit (10/18/14).

In the classroom, Stowell is a physics major who maintains a 3.64 grade point average
A 67-year DroughtWith their Midwest Conference champion, Macalester has won its first conference title since sharing the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in 1947. The Scots also won the MIAC title outright in 1925.

It's Never HappenedPrior to last week, Macalester had never received votes in the American Football Coaches Association poll.

The Scots received two votes last week after clinching the North Division title by defeating defending MWC champion St. Norbert on the heels of their first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent, 24th-ranked Carroll, 34-17.
