Glasser selected to the Jewish Sports Review All-America team

The Jewish Sports Review rewarded Macalester second baseman / relief pitcher Mitch Glasser with a spot on its All-America team. The honor is open to all Jewish student-athletes at NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA and Glasser receives first-team status.

Macalester golf coach Martha Nause and other LPGA veterans are featured in a July 11 New York Times story by Karen Crouse as these players have drawn attention to the fact that the U.S. Golf Association (USGA) does not sponsor a U.S. Women’s Senior Open. Nause, who played in last week’s U.S. Women’s Open at Oakmont near Pittsburgh, attempted to make the men’s Senior Open in a local qualifying tournament in June, since that event is not restricted by gender. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its 2009 Winter / Spring Academic All-Conference honorees today and 23 Macalester winter and spring sport athletes have earned this distinction. The conference recognized over 400 student-athletes who represented the MIAC’s thirteen institutions. These 23 join 25 fall sport athletes to earn Academic All-MIAC status, giving Macalester a total of 48 for the 2009-10 school term.

Coach Nause playing in U.S. Open

For the second time in three years, Macalester College men’s and women’s golf coach Martha Nause is playing at the U.S. Women's Open Golf Championships, which are set to begin Thursday (July 8) at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh. Nause, who has coached golf at Macalester since 2000, won a sectional qualifying tournament at White Bear Yacht Club in mid-May to make the field, and is playing in her 13th U.S. Open in her pro golf career.
