Men’s Tennis: Scots play twice in St. Peter

Macalester played a pair of matches against quality opponents Saturday in St. Peter, taking on Grinnell (Ia.) and MIAC powerhouse Gustavus Adolphus.  Five of the six singles matches with Grinnell were decided in three sets, with the Scots dropping a 5-4 heart-breaker.  The Gusties, who are going for their 25th straight conference crown, swept Macalester 9-0 in the evening match.

The Scots are now 2-4 on the year, 1-2 in MIAC play.

Fighting for three-set decision against Grinnell were were the first, third and fifth players in the lineup.  Brian Utz (Fy., Rochester, Minn. / Lourdes) won 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (13-11) at No. 1; Stephen Tyndel (Sr., Toronto, Ont. / City Academy) won 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 3; and Kai Peterson (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. / Central) came out on top 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) at No. 5.

Tyndel and Max Soghikian (Jr., Piedmont, Calif.) won 8-6 at second doubles.

Tyndel gave Mac its best chance against Gustavus, but fell 6-4, 6-4.
