WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team blanked Saint Mary's University, 7-0 in a MIAC dual Sunday afternoon at the Winona Tennis Center. The win marks the second straight 7-0 result for the Scots (2-0, 2-0 MIAC), who swept Concordia yesterday.
Macalester won all three doubles matches, with sophomores
Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) and
Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) leading the way with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of senior
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) and junior
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) posted a 6-3 victory, while first years
Alexander Coleman (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) and
Eric Yang (Satellite Beach, Fla./Westshore) worked overtime to take a 7-6 (6-0) decision at No. 3 doubles.
The Scots prevailed in all six singles matches in straight sets. Flam, Chen, Li and Coleman won at the top four positions. Sophomore
Zac Regelman (Weston, Mass./Weston) and first year
Sebastian Diaz (Bogota, Colombia/Celgio Neuva Granada) were victorious at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Macalester hosts UW-Superior and Wartburg on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Hayden Tennis Courts.
