ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team defeated UW-Superior, 7-0 in a non-conference dual Sunday afternoon at Hayden Tennis Courts. The result is the third sweep of the season for the Scots, who are now 3-1. The Yellowjackets are now 0-2.
Macalester won all three doubles matches, with junior
Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and first year
Eric Yang (Satellite Beach, Fla./Westshore) starting the day with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Sophomores
Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) and
Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) were victorious at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, while senior
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) and first year
Alexander Coleman (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) earned a 7-5 decision at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Flaman, Chen, Li and sophomore
Zac Regelman (Weston, Mass./Weston) won easily in straight sets at first, second, third and sixth singles, respectively. Annes needed a tie-breaker in the second set to win at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), while Coleman outlasted Matt McBride at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Macalester wraps up the fall schedule at the ITA Fall Tournament, held at Gustavus Oct. 2-5 in St. Peter, Minn.
