Macalester vs. Bethel box score

After starting its MIAC campaign with defeats to three top teams, Macalester gained its second straight conference triumph, cruising past Bethel 8-1 at Bloomington's 98th Street Lifetime Fitness Club.  The Scots get over the .500 mark on the season at 8-7 and are 2-3 in the MIAC.

The Royals won a close 9-7 match at first doubles, but Macalester took everything else.

Macalester winners in singles play were Chris Fowler (Sr., Toronto, Ont. / Royal St. George's) at No. 1, Evan Elderbrock (Sr., Madison, Wis. / West) at No. 2, Stephen Tyndel (Jr., Toronto, Ont. / City Academy) at No. 3, Max Edwards (Jr., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) at No. 4, Lewis Wilcox (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Southwest) at No. 5 and Max Soghikian (So., Piedmont, Calif.)  at No. 6.

Fowler came back from a 1-6 first set defeat to take close battles in the second and third sets.

In the doubles competition, Macalester picked up wins from Fowler and Tyndel at No. 2, and Edwards and Soghikian at No. 3.

Mac takes on Hamline next Saturday (April 21) at Highland Park High School.
