The 2012 winter / spring got off to a good start for the Scots, who defeated Northwestern-Roseville and Martin Luther by 9-0 scores at the Leonard Center.

Against Northwestern, the Scots were forced to three sets at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, and held on for an 8-6 decision at No. 1 doubles.  The match with Martin Luther was much more one-sided.

Singles winners for Macalester against Northwestern were Chris Fowler (Fy., Toronto, Ont. / Royal St. George's), Stephen Tyndel (Jr., Toronto, Ont. / City Academy), Max Edwards (Jr., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo), Perry Campbell (Fy., Beloit, Wis. / Memorial), Max Soghikian (So., Piedmont, Calif.) and Kai Peterson (Jr., St. Paul, Minn. / Central).

Tyndel and Wilson won at No. 1 doubles, Fowler and Edwards won at No. 2, and Soghikian and Peterson won at No. 3.

Picking up quick singles victories in the match with Martin Luther were Soghikian, Peterson, Campbell, Sam Naden (Fy., Middleton, Wis.), Max Hoffman (So., Newton, Mass. / Milton Academy) and Paul Rebman (So., Wheaton, Ill. / North).    Winning in doubles play were Edwards and Soghikian, Peterson and Fowler, and Naden and Campbell.

The Scots are off until a Feb. 12 match at St. Cloud State.
