Scots bunch three goals to beat St. Kate’s

Trailing 1-0 midway through the second half, the Scots exploded for three goal s in a span of just over four minutes to rally past St. Catherine 3-1 on a warm night at Macalester Stadium. The Scots move over the .500 mark in the MIAC at 3-2 and improve to 7-4 overall, while the Wildcats drop to 2-3 in the league, 6-4-1 overall.

St. Kate's got on the board in the 57th minute in this evenly-played match to put Macalester in a hole.

The Scots then took control, netting goals at 70:52 to deadlock the contest, and then again at 73:46 and 75:12 to walk off with the victory.

Emily Bardwell (Sr., Denver, Colo. / East) rifled one in from about 20 yards out into the right corner to deadlock the score with her third goal of the season. With 24 career goals, Bardwell is tied for 11th on the school's all-time scoring list.

Lauryn Gutierrez (Sr., Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephen's), the team's scoring leader on the season, tallied her sixth and seventh goals of the season to put Mac up by one, and then ahead by two. The game-winner was assisted by Willa Grefe (Fy., Staunton, Va. / Robert E. Lee) and Georgia Cloepfil (Fy., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln), while Jordan Eckstein (Sr., Northampton, Mass.) assisted in the final goal. Goalkeeper Rosie Glenn-Finer (So., San Francisco, Calif. / Lick Wilmerding) kept Macalester in the contest by turning away eight shots on goal.

Macalester earned a slight 10-9 lead in shots on goal and took 11 corner kicks, compared to six for the Wildcats.  Four different Scots had two shots on net: Bardwell, Gutierrez, Cloepfil and Emily Humphreys (So., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial).

The Scots go for their third straight MIAC win when they play Saturday (Oct. 9) at St. Mary's.
