Macalester took on six-time defending MIAC champion St. Thomas Friday and St. Paul and played well against the No. 17-ranked Tommies in 5-2 and 11-5 setbacks at UST's Koch Diamond.
The Tommies broke open a scoreless pitcher's duel in the first game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning against Mac's
Elliot Yodh (So., Merion, Pa. / Lower Merion). St. Thomas added two more runs in the sixth to go up 5-1.
Devin English (Jr., Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) and
Mitch Glasser (Fy., Chicago, Ill. / The Latin School) had RBI singles for the Scots.
Drew Cremisino's three-run homer snapped a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning in game two to spoil Macalester's chances for a split.
The Scots had 11 hits in the nightcap and received a 3-for-4 performance from
Garrett Salzman (Fy., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis).
Nate Wilson-Traisman (Jr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) and English added two hits apiece. English scored two runs from his leadoff spot and Wilson-Traisman drove in three to boost his total to 28 in just 20 games.
Macalester is 8-12 on the year and 0-4 in the MIAC. St. Thomas goes to 14-5 overall, 3-1 in the conference.
Macalester returns to action tomorrow to host St. Mary's at 1 p.m. in the first doubleheader at Mac's new baseball field.
