Macalester shut out visiting St. Scholastica 3-0 in an opening-round NCAA Division III playoff match and will take on MIAC rival Concordia-Moorhead in a second-round contest tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
Emily Bardwell (Jr., Denver, Colo. / East) netted her 15th and 16th goals of the season and
Erica DeJong (Fy., Woodinville, Wash. / Eastside Catholic) scored her first career goal to lead the Scots, who out-shot the Saints 8-0 in attempts on net.
MIAC champ Concordia topped Dubuque 2-0 in the other game Saturday at Macalester Stadium and is ranked No. 8 in the nation with a 17-0-2 mark. Macalester is 14-5-2 on the year. The Scots, in their 14th trip to the national playoffs under head coach John Leaney, are looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to the Cobbers in September in Moorhead. Leaney enters Sunday's match with 299 women's soccer coaching victories at Mac.
