Women’s Soccer: Scots Earn First Victory of Season, 3-0 over UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Macalester College women's soccer team turned in a strong performance to capture its first win of the season, defeating UW-Oshkosh, 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium. The win is the first under interim head coach Marissa Olson-Guillou for the Scots, who are now 1-1 on the season. The Titans fall to 1-2.

In the 33rd minute, Macalester would generate all the offense they would need. Sophomore midfielder Evelyn Savoie (Northbridge, Mass./Marianopolis Preparatory School) received a pass from junior midfielder Charlotte Martel (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) in the upper right corner of the penalty area and blasted a shot over the goalkeeper and into the goal. The score remained 1-0 until late in the first half, when sophomore forward Mikayla Edmunds (Falls Church, Va./Georgetown Visitation) raced down the right side, beat the defender and the clock, and scored from 18 yards out with three seconds left in the half.

Junior forward Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) added to the Scots' lead in the 58th minute with a goal off a free kick from the top of the penalty area. Hamilton's shot was expertly placed into the top right corner of the goal for a 3-0 advantage.

Junior Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School) and senior Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) each played a half in goal, with Salazar starting and making three saves in the first half, and Heuga also registering three saves in the second half. Macalester held a slight 12-10 edge in shots taken, with both teams putting six shots on frame.

The Scots return home to host UW-Superior on Thursday, Sept. 10 in the home opener. The non-conference game starts at 7:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
