Women’s Soccer: Macalester Begins Season with Loss at No. 3 UChicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Macalester College women's soccer team started the new season on the road, falling to the University of Chicago, 4-1 Friday afternoon at Stagg Field. The Scots were 9-7-2 last year, while the Maroons, ranked third in Division III, improved to 2-0 after advancing to the NCAA semifinals in 2025 with a 16-2-4 mark.

The game was the first under interim head coach Marissa Olson-Guillou, who had been Macalester's top assistant since 2023.

UChicago opened the scoring with an early goal in the 10th minute by Kamiryn Braxton Grimes. The score remained 1-0 Maroons into the second half until Indira Naylor put UChicago up 2-0 with a goal in the 51st minute. In the 70th minute Macalester tallied its first goal of 2026, when senior forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) found the net for an unassisted goal.

Less than four minutes later, the Maroons restored their two-goal advantage with a goal by Annabel Edwards. Kaitlyn Gomez closed out the score with a tally in the 75th minute for a 4-1 win.

Senior goalkeeper Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) started and made one save in the first half.
