ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College first year
Ray Zhang (San Ramon, Calif./Dougherty Valley) was included on the All-MIAC team, as the conference announced its year-end awards for men's golf today. The MIAC Men's Golf All-Conference team was selected using a combination of MIAC championship results and end-of-season voting. The top 10 finishers (including ties) at the MIAC Championship last fall automatically earned All-MIAC honors, and coaches nominated and voted on five additional players to the All-MIAC squad based on their body of work throughout the season.
Zhang tied for sixth individually at the MIAC Championships in September for the program's highest finisher since
Nick Santrach '11 placed fifth in 2010. Zhang was tied for 33rd after the first round before shooting even par over the final two rounds, including a -1 71 in the third round to finish with a three-round score of 224 (+8). The performance helped the Scots take fifth in the team standings, the team's highest finish since the 1970s.
Gustavus' Jimmy Abdo was selected the MIAC Player of the Year, while Bethel's Zeke Roberts was named the MIAC Rookie of the Year. Nick Cocalis is the MIAC Coach of the Year.
