ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College men's golfers Harry Cheng (Taipei, Taiwan/Heping Municipal) and rising junior Liam Sarmiento (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) were named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the organization announced today.

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Cheng graduated from Macalester in May after majoring in economics. His stroke average of 77.3 ranked second on the team this season, and he tied for 25th at the MIAC Championships last September. He best finish this past season came at the Augsburg Fall Invitational, where he tied for 18th.

Sarmiento tied for 19th at the MIAC Championships, helping the Scots finish fifth in the team standings. Over 16 rounds this season, he posted a stroke average of 78.6. Also an Academic All-District Team honoree, Sarmiento is majoring in biology at Macalester.

The Scots begin the 206-27 season at the Augsburg Fall Invitational on Sept. 5-6 at Majestic Oaks in Ham Lake, Minn.
