ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team competed at the Bethel Invitational on Saturday and posted several solid performances despite the rainy conditions. The meet was halted with a handful of events remaining.
On the track, sophomore
John Irhke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) led the way with a third-place finish behind two Division I runners from St. Thomas. Ihrke's time of 1:54.27 is the fastest time in the MIAC so far this season. Senior
Jay Lebakken (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) finished eighth in the 1500 meters in 4:14.00. The 4x100-meter relay team of senior
Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic), junior
Daniel Powell (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and first years
Drew Morral (Philippi, W. Va./Philip Barbour) and
Michael Zhao (Beijing, China/Lake Ridge Academy) took fifth with a time of 44.33.
In the field events, sophomore
Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) placed second with a leap of 14.06 meters (46-1.50), his best mark outdoors. The jump ranks fifth all-time at Macalester. Sophomore
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) threw the shot one centimeter off his personal best, 14.22 meters (46-8), to take ninth place.
Macalester heads to the Carleton Relays in Northfield, Minn. on Saturday, April 18.
