| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's golf team received votes in the Division III WGCA Preseason Coaches Poll, the Women's Golf Coaches Association announced today. The Scots received 42 points to rank two spots outside of the top 25.

In its first competition of the 2025 fall season, Macalester came back to win the Saint Benedict Invitational this past weekend at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell, Minn. After posting a team score of +30 318 in the first round, eight strokes behind Saint Benedict, the Scots rallied on Sunday to card a +15 303 and edge the host Bennies by two strokes.

Senior Bailey Lengfelder (Renton, Wash./Hazen) led Sunday's charge, shooting a 73 in the second round to finish atop the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 151. Earlier this week, she was named the MIAC Athlete of the Week for women's golf. Others playing well last weekend include sophomore Ava Austria (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) and first year Yangyang Gu (Nantong, Jiansu, China/Shanghai Experimental School), who tied for sixth at 157, sophomore Mia Cluff (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), who tied for 13th, and senior Scarlett Liu (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Preparatory), who tied for 16th.

St. Catherine, which finished fifth at the CSB Invitational, was the only MIAC team to be ranked in the top 25 at No. 16. Carleton received 50 points to rank one spot ahead of Macalester, and Saint Benedict received one point. Last year the Scots placed fourth at the MIAC Championships behind champion St. Catherine, Carleton and Bethel.

Macalester returns to action next weekend at the Wartburg Fall Invitational Sept. 6-7 at Prairie Links Golf Club.
