Men’s Track & Field: Heitler Breaks 200 School Record at Ole Open

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Senior Arlo Heitler (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) set a new school record in the 200 meters, as the Macalester College men's track & field team participated in the Ole Open, held at St. Olaf College Saturday afternoon. No team scores were kept.

Heitler won the 200 with a time of 21.42, breaking his own record of 21.61 set last year. The time ranks 48th in Division III this season. Also winning an event was senior Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville), who won the 1500 with a season-best time of 3:57.68. First year Karson Sammons (Portland, Ore./Westview) finished first in the 400 meters with a person-best time of 49.43. Junior Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) won the 5000 meters with a time of 15:47.25. Also running well was junior Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic), who finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.30.

In the field events, senior Aiden Yang (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) won the javelin with a throw of 51.59 (169-3). First year Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) placed second in the shot put with a throw of 14.23 (46-8.25), which is sixth on Macalester's all-time performance list. First year Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) took sixth in the high jump with a personal-best mark of 1.86 meters (6-1.25). Senior Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.22 (20-5). In the discus, junior Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) finished third with a throw of 43.66 (143-3), which ranks eighth all-time at Macalester. Mills also placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.63 (146-5). First year Leo Koch (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) finished behind Mills in the discus, taking fifth with a toss of 38.75 (127-1).  

Macalester serves as host of the MIAC Track & Field Championships, which will be held at Macalester Stadium on May 9-10.
