WAVERLY, Iowa - The Macalester College men's track & field team started its outdoor season this weekend at the Wartburg Outdoor Select, held Friday and Saturday. No team scores were kept.
Friday's events included the javelin and hammer throw. Senior
Aiden Yang (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) finished third in the javelin with a toss of 55.11 meters (180-9). Junior
Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) posted a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.91 meters (157-2) to place 14th. The throw ranks fourth on Macalester's all-time performance list.
In Saturday's field events, first year
Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.82 meters (5-11.5). Mensah also placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.01 meters (42-8.25).
On the track Saturday, senior
Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) started things off with a fourth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:49.43. Senior
Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) took eighth in the 400 meters in 50.79, followed closely by first year
Karson Sammons (Portland, Ore./Westview) in 10th (51.14). The Scots' 4x400-meter relay team of junior
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault), junior
Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate), junior
Thomas Malecha (Faribault, Minn.) and Ali placed eighth with a time of 3:36.75.
Macalester will send a group of distance runners to the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday, April 11, with the rest of the team competing on Saturday, April 12 at the Bethel Invite.
