ST. PAUL, Minn. - Macalester College junior
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) ran in the semifinal round of the 400 meters at the Canadian Track & Field Olympic Trials today at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal. Heitler finished 14th overall out of 21 competitors in the semifinals.
Heitler turned in a time of 48.11 to place fifth out of eight in his heat. The top two finishers plus the next two fastest times in the three semifinal heats advanced to Saturday's finals.
This spring Heitler qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 400 and placed 16th to earn All-America second team honors. He qualified by running a school-record time of 47.30 to place second at the MIAC Outdoor Championships. That time not only earned Heitler an invitation to the Canadian Olympic Trials but gave him a bye into the semifinal rounds.
