ST. PAUL, Minn. - Five Macalester College student-athletes were recognized as members of the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for men's track & field and cross country, the CSC announced today. The Scots who were honored include juniors
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings),
Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central),
Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) and

The CSC Academic All-America and All-District program honors student-athletes for excellence in both academics and athletics. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and have a top 50 performance in the region in an individual event to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
Heitler had his best season as a Scot, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the 400 meters, where he earned All-America second team honors with a 16th-place finish. This year he broke school records in the 60 meters indoors and the 200 and 400 meters outdoors. A repeat selection on the Academic All-District Team, Heitler earned All-Academic Athlete honors from the USTFCCCA and Academic All-MIAC accolades in 2023. He is majoring in economics at Macalester.
Hodin also is making his second appearance on the Academic All-District Team. A geography major, he was included on the Academic All-MIAC team as a sophomore. This season, Hodin won the triple jump at the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships and placed fourth in the event at the MIAC Outdoor Championships.
McKee turned in one of the best cross country seasons by a Scot, placing 14th at the MIAC Championships and 24th at the NCAA North Region Meet. He is the first Macalester men's cross country runner to earn both All-MIAC and All-Region honors in the same season since
Wade Ekstrom '10 in 2009. McKee, who broke school records in the 3000 and 5000 meters indoors this winter, is a geography major. Last fall he won the MIAC Elite 22 award for men's cross country for posting the highest cumulative grade point average among All-MIAC honorees, and was named an All-Academic Athlete by the USTFCCCA. McKee also made the Academic All-District and the Academic All-MIAC teams in 2023.
Yang earned All-MIAC honors in the javelin by placing third at the MIAC Outdoor Championships this spring. His personal-best throw of 58.11 meters (190-7) at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier ranked second in the region to earn Yang All-Region accolades. A media and cultural studies major, Yang made the Academic All-MIAC team last year.
Edwards was the Scots' No. 2 runner for most of the cross country season and placed 23rd at the MIAC Championships to receive All-MIAC honorable mention. He also was All-MIAC honorable mention in the 5000 meters indoors and the 10,000 meters outdoors. Edwards is majoring in economics at Macalester.
