ST. PAUL, Minn. - Macalester College junior Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) was recognized today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as a second team All-American, the organization announced. Heitler earned the honor by finishing in the top 16 in the 400 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Heitler placed seventh in his heat with a time of 48.29, which ranked 16th in the field of 22. This is the first year that NCAA Division III has awarded All-American second team honors to places 9 through 16 at the national meet, following the lead of Division I. The top eight finishers are now All-American first team honorees.

This was an excellent year for Heitler, who qualified for nationals in the 400 with a school-record time of 47.30 at the MIAC Outdoor Championships. The time earned him second place and All-MIAC recognition as well as All-Region accolades. Heitler also broke the school record in the 200 meters at the MIAC Outdoor Championships with a time of 21.61 to finish sixth. During the indoor season, he set a new school mark in the 60 meters of 7.03.

Heitler is Macalester's first men's All-American outdoors since Logan Hovie '16 in 2015, and the first outdoors on the track since Eric Klinker '01 in 2000.
