| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. -  Macalester College junior Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) broke his own record in the 200-meter dash preliminaries, as the men's track & field team began competition at the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday at Hamline University. Junior Aiden Yang (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) earned All-MIAC honors with a third-place finish in the javelin. The Scots also scored 13 team points and sit in seventh place.

Heitler finished third in his heat of the 200 with a time of 21.68, which breaks the old record of 21.73 he set two weeks ago at Macalester's Rider/Bolstorff Invitational. Earlier in the day, Heitler ran the fastest time in the prelims of the 400-meter dash (48.75) to qualify for Saturday's finals. The 400 finals are scheduled for 3:10 p.m. Saturday, with the 200 finals set to start at 4:15 p.m.

Yang became Macalester's first All-MIAC athlete of the meet, taking third in the javelin with a throw of 173-8 (52.93). The top three finishers in each event earn All-MIAC accolades. In the finals of the 10,000 meters, sophomore Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) finished fifth with a time of 31:47.14 to receive All-MIAC honorable mention.

Also scoring points was the Scots' 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Jay Lebakken (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina), first year Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate), junior Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) and senior Drew Getty (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain). The team placed sixth with a time of 8:01.19, which ranks 10th all-time at Macalester.

Earlier in the meet, Getty ran a time of 1:57.20 in the 800 meters to qualify for Saturday's finals with the sixth-fastest time in the prelims. The 800 finals begin at 3:40 p.m.

The MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Saturday, May 11 at Hamline. The first events begin at noon.
