NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester men's track & field team came out strong on the first day of the MIAC Championships. The Scots broke two records today. Junior
Reece McKee (Charlotte, Va./Charlottesville) set a school record in the 5000m and the distance medley relay team of juniors
Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast),
Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park), and
Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) and first year
Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) broke the other school record.
McKee, who was seeded fifth, finished third in the 5000m today, in a time of 14:59.01, being the first Scots to run the event in a sub-15-minute time. The old school record of 15:12.91 was held by
Dylan Keith '05. Sophomore
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) also crushed the school record, finishing just behind McKee in fourth with a time of 15:02.42. Edwards was seeded ninth to begin the race.
The distance medley relay team came in second at the championships. Crotteau, Ali, Wiltse, and Olsson set a new school record of 10:17.61 breaking the old school record of 10:20.94, set in 2008, by over three seconds.
Junior
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) and senior
Drew Getty (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) also scored points today. Heitler took fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 49.63. Getty finished eighth in the 800m run in a time of 1:57.27, a personal record. This time also ranks fourth all time at Macalester.
The Scots close out the Championships tomorrow in Northfield.
