Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Amundson is one of 619 women across all three divisions to be nominated for this prestigious award.
Rooted in Title IX, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to recognize graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
Amundson graduated Summa Cum Laude from Macalester in May after majoring in chemistry. As a senior she received the American Institutes of Chemists Award and the Health Professions Advisory Committee Award. While at Macalester, Amundson also was awarded the Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry as a junior, and the John Howe Scott Sophomore Chemistry Prize as a sophomore. A three-time Academic All-MIAC honoree, she made the 2023 Academic All-District team and received the USTFCCA All-Academic Award five times.
As a horizontal jumper and sprinter for the Scots, Amundson holds school records in the triple jump indoors and the long and triple jump outdoors. This spring she qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships both indoors and outdoors in the triple jump, placing ninth indoors and 14th outdoors. At the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May, Amundson won both the long and triple jumps and was named the 2023 MIAC Field Athlete of the Year. A four-time All-Region performer, Amundson earned All-MIAC recognition 11 times during her time at Macalester.
