WAVERLY, Iowa – The Macalester College women's track and field team sent senior
Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern), junior
Maria Blaesing (Munster, Ind./Munster), and first year
Jaeden Sims (St. Paul, Minn./Washington Technology Magnet School) to compete at the Last Chance Meet, hosted by Wartburg College, in Waverly, Iowa.
Blaesing set a personal best time in the mile this afternoon. Blaesing finished seventh, in a time of 5:00.23. This time is the second-best time in Macalester history. Blaesing shaved off over a second from her previous best time (5:01.71) which she set at the MIAC Championships on Feb. 23-24.
Amundson and Sims competed in the triple jump. Sims finished 12
th with a mark of 10.29m (33' 9.25"). This did not improve Sim's season best. Amundson took fourth, leaping 11.67m (38' 3.50"). This did not improve Amundson's best of 11.78m (38' 7.75"), that she set at the St. Olaf Tostrud Classic on Feb. 18.
Blaesing's time from the Last Chance Meet and Amundson's best triple jump mark, give both Scots a strong chance to qualify for nationals.
The top 20 performances across Division III that declare in each event will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship, held Mar. 10-11 in Birmingham, AL. The NCAA will announce the field for nationals the evening of Sunday, March 5.
