ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team kicked off competition at the MIAC Indoor Championships today, in the Leonard Center. The Scots currently sit seventh with 24 points.
The distance medley relay, consisting of sophomores
Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) and
Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast), graduate student
Ryan Kinnucan (Portland, Ore./Grant), and first year
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault), ran to a second-place finish. Their time of 10:34.51 is the second-best time in Macalester history.
Three Scots earned All-MIAC honorable mention recognition. In the weight throw, sophomore
Max Menache (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) finished fourth. He threw for a mark of 15.21m (49' 11"). Senior
Victor Wright (Cape Coral, Fla./Mariner) registered a throw of 14.78m (48' 6"), to place sixth. On the track, sophomore
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) took fourth in the 400m dash (49.68).
Other Scots that scored points for Macalester include sophomore
Nick Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and first year
Hamza Mahamud (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie). Ihrke placed seventh in the 5000m run, with a personal best time of 15:14.20. This is the fifth best time in Macalester history. Mahamud finished eighth in the 60m hurdles. In the preliminaries, Mahamud ran a time of 8.93, a personal best and the second-best time in Macalester history. He is the second Scot to run sub-nine seconds in the 60m hurdles. His final time was 8.95.
The Scots close out the MIAC Championships tomorrow, Sun. Feb. 26. The first events of the day will start at 10:15 a.m.
