NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team traveled to Northfield to compete at the St. Olaf Tostrud Classic. The Scots finished sixth of 10 teams. Senior
Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) highlighted the meet, breaking the school record in the triple jump.
Junior
Maria Blaesing (Munster, Ind./Munster) won the mile to lead the Scots on the track. Blaesing finished the mile in a time of 5:09.51. Amundson came in second in the 200m dash, registering a time of 27.06. Sophomore
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) took 13
th in the event. In the 600m run, first year
Hadley Wilkins (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield School) came in eighth with a time of 1:43.89.
In the field, Amundson continued to impress, winning the triple jump. Amundson's mark of 11.78m (38' 7.75") is a personal best and currently ranks 12
th in Division III. It also ranks first in Macalester history, beating the previous mark of 11.68m (38' 4"), set in 2007 by Susan Brown. First year
Jaeden Sims (St. Paul, Minn./Washington Technology Magnet School) took third in the event, with a mark of 10.53m (34' 6.75"). Junior
Sarah Beth Hobby (South Pittsburg, Tenn./St. Andrew's-Sewanee School) finished fifth in the long jump.
Another highlight of the day from the track was the 4x400m relay team, comprised of Preston, Sims, junior
Karley Thurston (Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson), and first year
Mara Pirone (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill), finished third with a time of 4:19.66.
Next week, Thursday Feb 23- Saturday Feb 25, the Scots will host the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
