NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team competed at the Meet of the Hearts, hosted by Carleton today. Macalester took third with 107 points. The Scots finished behind winner Carleton (178) and runner-up Luther (112).
Senior
Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) won the triple jump with a mark of 11.51m (37' 9.25"). First year
Jaeden Sims (St. Paul, Minn./Washington Technology Magnet School) came in just behind Amundson in second, with a personal best mark of 10.44m (34' 3"). Junior
Sarah Beth Hobby (South Pittsburg, Tenn./St. Andrew's-Sewanee School) placed third in the shot put with a mark of 10.64m (34' 11"). First year
Roen Boyd (Minneapolis, Minn./South) took fourth in the pole vault.
On the track, junior
Maria Blaesing (Munster, Ind./Munster) led the Scots by winning the 1000m run, in a time of 3:02.67. First year
Mara Pirone (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) took fourth in the event. Blaesing also came in third for the mile, in a time of 5:08.57. Amundson took second in the 55m dash with a personal best time of 7.65. Sophomore
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) came in third for the 400m dash in a time of 1:02.27. The women dominated in the 800m run, with first year
Hadley Wilkins (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield School), junior
Karley Thurston (Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson), and senior
Madeline Rodriguez (Petaluma, Calif./Marin Academy) taking third, fourth, and fifth respectively in the event.
Other highlights include the 4x200m relay team of senior
Sara Gregor (Bloomington, Minn./The Blake School), junior
Penelope Hunter (Granville, Ohio/Granville), Sims, and Preston placing second with a time of 1:51.60. In the 4x400m relay, Hobby, Rodriguez, and Wilkins teamed up with sophomore
Anna Warren (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette) for a third-place finish (4:26.87).
Macalester's next meet will be Saturday February 18. Hosted by St. Olaf in Northfield, Minn., the Scots will attend the St. Olaf Tostrud Classic.
