ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team will host a first-round dual with Bethel in the MIAC Playoffs on Tuesday, May 4. The matches begin at 4:30 p.m. at Hayden Tennis Courts.
The Scots, coached by
Jason Muhl, finished the regular season with a 6-3 record to earn the No. 4 seed in the playoffs. Back on April 22, Macalester defeated Bethel, 6-3 with victories at first, second, fifth and sixth singles, and at second and third doubles. Juniors
Jeffrey Jorgensen (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) and
Alexander Poland (Madison, Wis./Madison West), and sophomore
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) won both their singles and doubles matches. The Royals finished fifth in the MIAC with a 5-4 record.
The winner of Tuesday's dual will face top-seeded Gustavus in the semifinals on Thursday, May 6 in St. Peter, Minn. The other semifinal match-up features No. 2 Carleton hosting No. 3 St. Thomas on Thursday. The semifinal winners will meet for the MIAC Playoff title on Saturday, May 8, with the highest remaining seed serving as host.
