LA CROSSE, Wis. - A small contingent of the Macalester College women's track and field team competed at the NCAA Final Qualifier on Wednesday at UW-La Crosse. Sophomore
Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) provided the meet's highlight for the Scots with a personal-best effort in the triple jump to take second place.
Amundson's leap of 11.57 meters (37-11.50) is a significant improvement over her previous best mark of 11.37 (37-3.75) and is currently the 24th-best triple jump of the season in Division III. The top 19 performances qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, meaning Amundson needs at least five jumpers who qualify to choose not to compete in order for her to receive a bid to nationals. Amundson's effort on Wednesday also is the second-best triple jump all-time at Macalester behind only the school record of 11.81 (38-8.75) set by former All-American
Susan Brown '07.
Also competing at La Crosse on Wednesday was junior pole vaulter
Hannah Grosse (Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids). Grosse, who broke her own school record in placing fourth at the MIAC Championships last weekend with a mark of 3.43 (11-3), placed ninth, clearing 3.28 (10-9).
First year
Maria Blaesing (Munster, Ind./Munster) will compete on the second day of the NCAA Final Qualifier on Thursday, running the 1500 meters.
