Seidel
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College Director of Athletics
Donnie Brooks has announced that women's soccer head coach
Krystle Seidel has resigned her position. Seidel, who has been the Scots' head coach since May of 2018, is relocating with her family to Cincinnati.
"It was an honor to serve as the head coach for the program over the past four years," Seidel said. "I have had the privilege of coaching incredible women and working with unbelievable people within the athletics department and greater Macalester College community. I want to thank
Donnie Brooks and
Steve Murray for all their support over the years. What they are growing inside Macalester Athletics is truly special. I will always cherish my time at Macalester."
During her time at Macalester, Seidel has overcome several obstacles in building the team into a winning program. In both of her first two years, she had two student-athletes in her senior class, and each year one of them suffered season-ending injuries. Her third year was affected by the pandemic, but Seidel used the hiatus to develop and improve her young team. This fall, Macalester went 10-6-2, the program's most wins since 2015, and registered a 4-6-1 record in conference play to finish one point out of a spot in the playoffs. The Scots surrendered just 11 goals in 18 games on the season, which was the second-lowest total in the MIAC.
Seidel came to Macalester following a successful tenure at the University of Minnesota as a player and assistant coach, serving as the Gophers' associate head coach for the final three years of her nine-year coaching stint. A native of Woodbury, Minn., Seidel was Minnesota's Gatorade Player of the Year and a high school All-American at Woodbury High School. This fall, she and her two sisters, Kylie and Kassey, were inducted into the Woodbury High School Hall of Fame.
"Krystle has done an excellent job rebuilding our women's soccer program over the past four years," Brooks said. "Her ability to develop players and recruit talented and exceptional student-athletes to Macalester has put this program in a position of strength, unlike when she first arrived, and we look forward to seeing this program continue to thrive moving forward."
Brooks also announced that assistant coach
Tori Burnett will serve as interim head coach until a new coach is hired. Macalester will conduct a national search for its next women's soccer head coach.
