ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team fell on Sunday to California's Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a close 2-1 match at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. With the loss, the Scots' record is brought to 2-2. The Athenas' victory brings them to a 3-1-1 record for the season.
This game was Macalester's second home match of the season, following a Thursday win against UW-Superior.
Scoring was kicked off in the 23rd minute with a goal for CMS by Lexie Roth. The score sat at 1-0 until the conclusion of the first half. Over the first half, CMS took seven shots, beating out Macalester's five.

Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) took a left-footed shot from 15 yards out that beat goalkeeper Andra Marinescu, tying the game at 1-1.
The Scots found no more opportunities for a shot during the game. Macalester senior
Abigail Heuga (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) registered five saves in the second half, though in the 75th minute, Sierra Troy of CMS was able to net the game's final goal, bringing the score to 2-1 and marking the last on-goal shot for either team.

Lily Salazar (Oakland, Calif./Bentley Upper School) played the first half and made one save. Heuga played the entire second half. Marinescu had two saves, as the Athenas outshot the Scots, 19-6.
Next on the schedule for Macalester is the MIAC opener against St. Catherine University on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
