Wolterman
Anya Wolterman, Track & Field/Cross Country
Hometown: Madison, Wis.
Majors: Physics, Geology
Plans after graduation: "I'm going to work on a trail in the Collegiate Peaks in Colorado for five months through the Southwest Conservation Corps, then find a Ph.D program in geophysics (or tectonics, or glaciology, or nuclear physics) that interests me!"
Highlights as a Scot: Set personal bests in the mile, 3000 and 5000 indoors this winter… Placed ninth in the 5000 at the MIAC Indoor Championships in March… Also ran her fastest 6K at the MIAC Cross Country Championships and competed at the NCAA Central Region Meet as a senior.
Coach Schofer: "Anya had a breakout year as a senior, running huge PRs at every distance. She has been an incredibly hard worker and a quiet but steady influence on our team. Her dedication to excellence as a runner and as a student is a model for all of our younger runners to follow."
Favorite memory as a Scot: "Every MIAC cross country championship race over the past four years, because there is nothing quite as rewarding and empowering as running around in the cold (in our underwear) with the strongest, grittiest, and most incredible women I know!
"Another more specific memory is when I broke 19 minutes in the 5K at the 2020 MIAC Indoor Track championships, which would not have been possible without the support and cheers of all the other T&F team members spread around the track for the entirety of those 25 laps!"
