ST. PAUL, Minn. –  Macalester College senior Phoebe Aguiar (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) was named to the Google Cloud Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today.

Aguiar is Macalester's third Academic All-American from the 2018-19 academic year, joining Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) from the water polo team and Jackson White (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) from the men's soccer team. This is the first time Macalester has had at least three Academic All-Americans in the same academic year since 1982, when five Scots received the honor from CoSIDA.

A three-time All-American, Aguiar recently completed her outstanding career at Macalester with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 25. In March, she won the 800 at the indoor national meet to become the fourth women's track and field national champion at Macalester. Her time of 2:07.50 is the third-fastest time ever run at the Division III level indoors. Last year, Aguiar placed second nationally in the 800 outdoors with a school and MIAC record time of 2:07.22. She leaves Macalester with a national championship, six MIAC titles and school records in the 800 outdoors and the 600, 800 and 4x400-meter relay indoors.

An environmental studies major, Aguiar graduated from Macalester on May 18 with a 3.61 grade point average. This spring she became the third Macalester track athlete in the past four years to receive the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Aguiar also has earned a spot on the MIAC Academic All-Conference team three times and received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors twice. She plans on attending Syracuse University in the fall to pursue a Master's degree in Administration and Public Policy.

The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-All-America Track & Field/Cross Country teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in their sport and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and be a contributor to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
