ST. PAUL, Minn. –  Macalester College senior Phoebe Aguiar (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) will compete in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The 800 preliminary heats begin at 3:00 p.m. Central on Friday, May 24, with Aguiar running in Heat 2.

Aguiar is looking to sweep the 800 this year, having won the event at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on Mar. 9 in Boston with the third-best time (2:07.50) in Division III history. She ran the fastest time in Division III this spring in winning the MIAC title with a time of 2:07.36 on May 11. The time broke the meet record and was named the Performance of the Meet. No other competitor in the 800 at the national meet this weekend has a time below 2:10 this season.

This is Aguiar's second trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships following last year's runner-up finish in the 800 at UW-La Crosse. Her time of 2:07.22 is a school and MIAC record, and is the 10th-fastest time ever run at the Division III level.

The top two finishers in each of three preliminary heats, plus the next three fastest times, will qualify for the final, which is scheduled to be run at 12:50 p.m. Central on Saturday, May 25. Follow along with live video and live results, or visit the championships website for more information.
