JORDAN, Minn. - In their final competition of the fall season, the Macalester men's golf team compiled a three-round score of 973, shooting two of their best rounds of the year on the final day of the tournament, with scores of 316 and 317.
The tournament was originally scheduled to run October 5 through October 7, but due to heavy rain on Saturday morning, the event was condensed to just Sunday and Monday with 18 holes being played on Sunday and 36 being played on Monday.
Sophomore
Alex Johanson (Walla Walla, Wash./Walla Walla) tallied the Scots' best score in the event, with a 239, which was 23 over par. This put him in a tie for 36
th place. First year
Jason Shi (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Prep) was only three strokes behind Johanson with a score of 242, finishing in a tie for 39
th.
Johanson opened the tournament with an 84 on Sunday, and finished strong on day two with a 77 and a 78. With his two rounds on Monday, the sophomore recorded nine total rounds in the 70s throughout the fall season.
Shi shot an 86 on the first day of the tournament and also improved during the second day, tying his career-low with a 77 and then capping off the fall with a 79.
The University of St. Thomas took home the conference title with a three-round score of 878, which was 14 strokes ahead of the next-best team. The Tommies' top-golfer, Emmet Herb, earned medalist honors, finishing with a score of 211. Gustavus Adolphus and St. John's rounded out the top three teams.
Sophomore
Karanja Karubiu (Nairobi, Kenya/United World College) was third in for the Scots, with a score of 252. His second round of the tournament was his best, as he recorded an 82. Junior
Jim Smith (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) also had his best round on the second day with an 85.
Sophomore
Ethan Deutsch (Kyle, Texas/Lehman) logged Macalester's lowest round of the tournament in the final round, shooting a career-low 75.
