KENOSHA, Wis..- The Macalester College men's soccer team beat Carthage College today 3-1 in their second away game in as many days. The Scots are now 4-2-1 on the season.
Macalester took the lead in the middle of the first half as sophomore Floyd Krom (Naaldwijk, Netherlands/UWC-Costa Rica
) scored his scored his third goal of the season less than ten minutes after being subbed in. The Scots were able to defend two shots by the Red Men later in the half to go into the half up 1-0.
Into the second half, the Scots doubled their lead when senior Jamel Benhamida (Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's) successfully scored a penalty kick in the 67th minute. Less than ten minutes later the Red Men made it a close game, 2-1, as they were able to score against the Scots defense.
But Macalester secured the 3-1 win, as senior Clayton Smith (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) scored with six minutes left in the game from an assist by junior Max Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park). Smith leads the Scots with four goals this season.
Macalester returns to play away on Saturday, Sept. 22, away at the Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. at 3:30 p.m.
