NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team played Carleton to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime Saturday afternoon at Carleton's Bell Field. The result leaves the Scots with a 4-2-2 record on the season, including a 1-0-1 mark in the conference. The Knights are now 5-1-1, 0-1-1 MIAC.
After a scoreless first half, Carleton got on the scoreboard in the 51st minute, when the Knights were awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the penalty area. Adam Pearson converted the penalty kick for a 1-0 lead. Less than nine minutes later, Macalester was fouled in the Carleton penalty area, and senior midfielder
Jamel Benhamida (Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's) beat Knights' goalkeeper Nate Isbell to his left to tie the score at 1-1.
The Scots put two shots on goal near the end of regulation, but neither team was able to find the net in the two 10-minute overtime periods. The result is the first tie between the two teams since a scoreless draw on October 14, 2014.

Colton Wenig (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) made seven saves for Macalester, while Isbell had five saves for Carleton.
After six consecutive games on the road, the Scots will host Concordia College on Tuesday, Sept. 25 in a conference match-up. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
