MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team earned a 7-2 victory over MIAC foe St. Thomas in a conference dual Friday evening at Baseline Tennis Center. The Scots improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Tommies fall to 2-2, 0-2 MIAC.

Macalester opened the competition by sweeping the three doubles matches, with senior Josh Doyle (Cologne, Germany/Friedrich Wilhelm Gymnasium) and first year Sam Hochberger (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) winning at first doubles, 8-3. Senior Aidan Tirpack (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) and first year Ben White (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) were victorious at second doubles, 8-5, and senior Ben Wilson (Oakland, Calif./College Preparatory School) and junior Matthew Yang (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) won their match at third doubles, 8-4.

In singles play, Doyle and Hochberger won their matches in straight sets at first and third singles, respectively. Tirpack defeated Sterling Sibley at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 10-4, while White edged Erich Nuss at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8. The Scots nearly took all nine matches from the Tommies, who won the final two singles matches in three sets.

The Scots will play a non-conference dual at UW-Eau Claire on Sunday, Mar. 4, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
