Men's Soccer: Scots Topple Saint John's, Tied For First In MIAC

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn.- The Macalester College men's soccer team beat Saint John's University today 3-0 on the road. In the Scots second to last game of the season, Macalester's victory over the Johnnies moves them up to be tied with Gustavus for first place in the MIAC.

Macalester took a quick lead over Saint John's when sophomore Floyd Krom (Naaldwijk, Netherlands/UWC-Costa Rica) scored his fourth goal of the season. After splitting two Saint John's defenders, Krom scored from a shot from 18 yards out. The Scots defense helped keep the score 1-0 in favor of the Scots despite being out shot 11-6 by the Johnnies.

Going into halftime, senior keeper Colton Wenig (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) helped keep Saint John's off the scoreboard with five saves in the first half.

In the second half, Macalester doubled their lead seven minutes into play. Senior Logan Harper (Westwood, Mass./St. Mark's School) stepped up to take a left-footed free kick from outside the right corner of Saint John's 18-yard box. Harper's free kick went swiftly into the near post of the Johnnies' goal to make it 2-0.

The Scots then secured the win with a successfully converted penalty kick by senior defender Max Kent (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park). The Scots won 3-0 and are now 7-1-1 in the MIAC.

The Scots return home this Saturday, Oct. 27 to play for first place in the MIAC against Gustavus Adolphus at 3:30 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
