LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- The Macalester College men's tennis team took on Hamline University in the 2016 MIAC opener at LifeTime Fitness Wednesday evening. The Scots earned a 7-2 win in the dual, improving their overall season record to 6-4. Hamline falls to 7-8 overall.

The Scots grabbed five wins in singles play and two in doubles. No. 1 and 2 singles players, Josh Doyle and Brian Utz each earned two wins. Doyle defeated David Yanagita 6-2, 6-2 in singles action. Partnered with Utz in doubles, the duo earned an 8-2 win over Hamline's No. 1 and 2 players. Utz was victorious in singles play, 7-5, 6-1 to win his fifth straight match.

Aidan Tirpack was the third Macalester player to come away with two wins in tonight's action. Tirpack defeated Matt Seracki 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and partnered with Wilson Merell to win 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Macalester will return to action on Saturday, April 9 when they host Gustavus Adolphus at Macalester's Hayden Courts. Match play will begin at 4:30 p.m.
