WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team went on the road and blanked Saint Mary's University, 9-0 in a MIAC dual on Sunday. The victory gives the Scots an 8-7 record on the season, including a 3-3 mark in the conference. The Cardinals drop to 9-12, 1-8 MIAC.

In doubles play, senior Brian Utz (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) and sophomore Josh Doyle (Cologne, Germany/Friedrich Wilhelm Gymnasium) won at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. The duo of junior Hardt Bergman (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) and sophomore Aidan Tirpack (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) was victorious at No. 2 doubles, while senior Wilson Merrell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) and first year Matthew Yang (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) won at No. 3 doubles.

Utz, Tirpack, Yang and first year Peter Willenborg (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) won their singles matches at second, third, fifth and sixth singles in straight sets. Doyle, the Scots' No. 1 singles player, improved to 5-1 against MIAC competition by outlasting Collin Kaczorowski, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 10-8. Merrell  also came back to beat Warren Lawrenz, 5-7, 6-2, 10-6 at fourth singles.

Macalester continues MIAC play with a dual at Concordia College on Apr. 24.
